Floral & Ornamental Ketubbot
Of existing examples of historical ketubot from Jewish communities around the world, the vast majority fall into the category of floral and ornamental. Jewish ketubah artists could draw on the natural world for inspiration, avoiding the stricture of the prohibition of graven images. There are many beautiful examples of Jewish wedding contracts from countries as diverse as Italy, Morocco, India and Afghanistan that incorporate flowers into their design. Some of the ketubas in this gallery are derived from these and other historical sources. There is a wide range of approaches in these Jewish wedding contracts--from the very realistic, very formal designs, to the more stylized, folk art and contemporary ketubot.
