Abstract Ketubbot
Among the earliest Jewish marriage contracts I created was one that I intended to look like a weaving and be suggestive of a tallit. Many couples are married under a chuppah made out of a prayer shawl; often one that has been passed down through the generations. In this gallery of abstract ketubot you will see many variations on the basic theme of the weaving. Working with the couple I come up with a color scheme and symbols for the upper and lower bands. These ketubahs are done in oil pastel and watercolor which are applied layer upon layer then scratched through. The resulting texture has the look of cloth into which is woven the ketubah text.
